Why choose a piece of personalised Botanic art?

Every picture tells a story, well that's what I like to think my paintings are all about.  Our names are given at birth and travel with us through life, the way the world knows us "Naming a baby is an act of poetry, for many people the creative moment of their lives" (Richard Eyre).  Names are truly significant "a person's name to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language" (Dale Carnegie).  I try to capture the significance of the meaning of a name in my artwork.

The idea of translating names into the language of flowers occurred to me a few years ago. Meanings have been associated with flowers and trees since ancient times from the Etruscans and ancient mythology to the Victorians.  Traditions around the world have associations between botanics and meanings. Similarly names are associated with attributes in different traditions and can represent a number of sentiments.

The unique name translations I create are the result of researching the meaning of a name and then identifying the most appropriate flower, tree or herb that shares that meaning.  I use an extensive set of reference materials to identify options. In addition from time to time my paintings include botanic motifs relating to hobbies and the nature of the person, resulting in a completely customised gift.  The paintings are timeless, framed in classic white or limed frames and fit well into any room decor.  I like to think of them as family memorabilia.  It gives me great pleasure to know my paintings are in homes in many parts of the world - not only as new baby gifts, but also for wedding presents, birthday gifts, anniversary gifts and even as memorials for lost loved ones.

If you would like to find out more about my work please do not hesitate to get in touch.  I would be delighted to hear from you.
